Episode 5: Roaring River State Park -- More than Meets the Eye

Updated: Jan 18, 2020

"We live in a world full of beauty, charm, and adventure. There is no end to the adventures that we can have if only we seek them with our eyes open." -Irving Wallace

In Episode 5, we spend the weekend in Roaring River State Park in Cassville, Missouri. For Father's Day this year, we wanted to get away and to explore a new area. When we arrived in Roaring River State Park, we started to get the feeling we had made a mistake. While the scenery was beautiful, the campground and river were packed with people. We prefer camping in more secluded areas and rarely stay in campgrounds but with limited knowledge of the area felt we had no other options.

When we started to explore the back roads and trails in this area, however, everything changed. We found beautiful, shaded dirt roads that went on and on. We put the top down and explored for hours driving in and out of massive dry creek beds and rarely seeing another vehicle. The smooth ride and incredible view made this such a wonderful way to spend the day.

We also found spectacular hiking trails all around the park. They were well maintained, shaded, and filled with things to look at and climb on. The kids loved running ahead to explore and to see everything first. Connor was excited to help out with filming and surprised us all with some of his shots. Everywhere we looked, we saw huge rocks, caves, and beautiful trees.

By the end of the Devil's kitchen trail, Clara was tired and needed a lift back to the Jeep. "A good father is one of the most unsung, upraised, unnoticed, and yet one of the most valuable assets in our society," (Billy Graham). As I look at this picture, I am so thankful for the father my children have. A man who is never afraid, always has the right answers, and strives to be the best in everything he does. A dad who pushes them to be more but is their strength when they need him.

We are already planning another trip out to Roaring River State Park to explore all the areas we didn't get to this weekend. Connect with us on Facebook if you would like to come out with us! We'd love to have you along!
